"Aloha Flow" - Happy New Year!

Aloha Flow from Diversion TV on Vimeo.

This trip to Hawai'i was not a means to an end. In other words, we did not go for a contest or some event. We did not go on this trip with the purpose of making a video. Each person had his own motivation and the Energies brought this crew together in Hawai'i at the same time. We were in Hawai'i to BE in Hawai'i and experience the flow of the Aloha Flatland Spirit. Shot mostly with a GoPro and an iPhone, this video is a manifestation of our island experience and awesome things that occurred while we were there. Our crew consisted of Scott Powell, Jesse Puente, Jean-William Prevost, and Bobby K. Carter, along with the riders of the 808. Please enjoy this video! Aloha and Happy New Year!

80s Trix! 80s Flix! : Karate Kid Part 2

It's time for another edition of 80s Trix! 80s Flix! The 80s brought us cool movies as well as most of the foundation tricks of flatland. This is a follow up to the Karate Kid Part 1 episode in Reseda

In Karate Kid Part 2 Daniel-san and Mista Miyagi take a trip back to Miyagi-san's home town, Tomi Village, in Okinawa, Japan. I guess the producers thought it was too much drama to actually shoot in Okinawa so they shot in Hawaii instead!

They constructed Tomi Village on the island of Oahu at Kahaluu Fish Pond in Kaneohe.
(Marked with the red A)

26 years later, the set is gone, but the area and the mountains still remain. This is Tomi village in 1986....

This is Tomi Village in 2012

While you compare backgrounds in these pictures, Daniel-san gets his focus on!
Breathe iiinn....Breathe oooouuut!

With the Mountains at Kaneohe looming in the back, Daniel-san is tryin' to figure out that drum technique. Don't ask me, ask the drum!

Somebody's stoked!

It's the lantern scene where the village mourns for Miyagi's late father!

Mista  Miyagi puts in work on his long lost main squeeze in Tomi Village.

Meanwhile, Kumiko wonders when the hell Daniel-san is gonna get his act together and come thru for the Tea Ceremony!

This area was a bit difficult to shoot because there were "NO TRESPASSING" signs all over the place. The gate was wide open, so we couldn't pass up this chance. We had to work quick. Eventually we found out that the area is available to rent for weddings and corporate events.
"Where's Tomi Village?" "You're standing on it, Corporal! Get 'em outta here!"

80sTrix! 80sFlix! : Real Genius

The other day the twins hit me up, "Carts we found CalTech, set of the movie 'Real Genius'!"
Time for another episode of 80sTrix! 80sFlix!

'Real Genius' stars Val Kilmer as Chris Knight, head of a group of students building a high powered laser. Little did they know their professor was crooked and in cahoots with the government.
TRIVIA FACT: After watching this movie, the twins decided they wanted to go to college.

In the movie,  the name of the school was changed to Pacific Tech cuz Cal Tech didn't want to be associated with shady professors like Hathaway. Ren with the forkstand.
"Professor Hathaway I saw your program on radioactive isotopes. I have one question: Is that your REAL hair?"

The movie was shot on a bunch of different campuses around SoCal, including CalTech so we couldn't quite find any exact settings from the movie. Rod gets funky in front of a walkway that could have been in the movie!
Lazlo! Buddy!

Bobby wih a Boomerang in the aforementioned walkway!

After cruising the campus for while, looking for artifacts from the movie, we started taking some photos of the new architecture on campus. Rod at the helm.

It wasn't long before special forces put a halt to our operations. Security came to flex.

All these photos were taken with a small point and shoot camera. There must have been 30 people around the campus taking photos.  Security was closing in, so i posted up next to this dude with a big DSLR professional camera and took a picture of this fountain.

Security: "We can't have you guys doing tricks and taking photos. You got a picture permit?"

Me: "WHAT?!"

Security: "You gotta have a permit if you want to take pictures."

They didn't say squat to the professional camera dude who scurried off real quick or the 30 other people taking photos and riding bikes around campus, they just flexed on us. Haters gonna hate...

Anyway...we found Val Kilmer. He's still riding. He's keeping it real on the underground though!

Battery Energy Drink Commercial.

A few week's ago, Jo-Weezy and I did a commercial for Battery Energy Drink. It's from Finland, so I'm not sure if you can get it in the USA. After pulling a ton of tricks, we had to fake a bunch of crashes so that the filmmakers could create the "try try again until you get it" effect. They didn't show too much of the pulled tricks though. Maybe they'll make some more versions. Flatland on Finnish TV! Here it is....

The shoot took place in downtown LA.

Of course we can't have an energy drink update without Chance! He approves the new addition to his collection!

FlatMode Field Trip: BMX Hall of Fame

FIEEEELD TRIP! Todd Carter and I took a trip down to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, near San Diego. We wanted to check out the RAD museum inside the BMX Hall of fame. It's FREE so you should definitely go down there and check it out!

To our surprise, a BMX race was going down so we decided to show them how we do it on flatland. For all the new schoolers, this is how it started. Racers got bored between heats and started doing tricks.   Next thing you know, freestyle is born and BOOM, here we are...

Yeah, that torch is lit, dawg....

We ran into Danny G. randomly so he joined us for the session!

We took so many pictures at the Hall of Fame, I just threw them all in a slide show. Enjoy!
