Ninja Secrets!!!

When regular footed backpackers aren't cuttin' it, you may have to pivot and use the cross footed attack! A few people have asked me about this flatland ninja technique, so I've attempted to illustrate it with the video above. At first you may think that logically, you need to shift one foot to the heel and the other foot to the toe before the pivot. If you do this, you'll find that the feet will pivot and slide off pegs. Since flatland will always be somewhat of a mystery, you only need to "slightly" shift your feet to the heel and toe...and I mean real slightly.... The more important point is to move your feet to the edge of the pegs. Once again if you go too much to the outside of the peg, it won't work, but you need to move both feet to the outside so that when you pivot, your heel or toe won't hit the spokes.

Now this is hardcore.

"RUM97-05" Video.

One of my all time favorite videos from Japan, "RUM97-05", really captures the true essence of flatland at it's core. Dudes busting out and evolving. I found this clip on you-tube. It's the last part of the video with a guy named Takaaki that stayed away from comps and just worked on dope tricks with Akira.

I remember showing this video to Eugene Collins when he was visiting the lab. He was was going nuts over the video and when the Takaaki section came on, it was like he was witnessing a rare phenomenon...especially when Takaaki was going for the cliffhanger with both feet on the bars. "NOOoooooOooOo...!!!", Eugene screamed. "He's doing the Paraglider!!!!!!!!!!!!" The mythical trick that no one has seen performed, only imagined and spoken of...

Monterey Park Session!

Yo' boy, Thong, sent out the word over facebook, so I went to Monterey Park to session.
Thong's got a lot of sweet concepts. He likes to jump around the bike a lot.


When all his concepts come together it's going to be pretty sick.




Come to Monterey Park and catch these retired dudes, hustling Chinese checkers. "We don't need no picnic table! We gonna keep it real, and play right here on this curb, between these parked cars, sucka free...."

Yesterday we went to Newport Beach. This spot is pretty much the California "Dream" spot. The spot isn't sandy although it's literally on the beach.

Tsutomu in Hollywood edit #2
